Common Questions

In the Bible, we’re encouraged to think of the generosity of God as a motivation for giving (2 Corinthians 8:9). We remember that Jesus defined the concept of generosity when He descended from heaven, lived in our brokenness, and died a humiliating death for us on a cross.

Our gratitude for the death of Jesus (Romans 5:8) and the life that He gave us (Romans 6:5) motivates our generosity. It’s also exciting to take part in something bigger than yourself. With our pooled resources, we are able to make a bigger impact on our city, the nations, and generations than we ever could alone.

God’s people are called to give generously (2 Corinthians 8:3), cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:6-7), sacrificially (1 John 3:16-17), spontaneously (Matthew 5:42), regularly (1 Corinthians 16:2), and privately (Matthew 6:2-4).

The word “tithe” (Malachi 3:10) simply means “tenth.” Practically, to give a tithe is to give the first 10% of your income before taxes or anything else comes out.

Partners at Sterling Wood Church are committed to using the tithe as a baseline but not as a ceiling for our giving. We consider giving beyond the tithe to be an opportunity to demonstrate God’s generosity to others.

For clarity, we understand that for some, 10% will be incredibly difficult to manage while for others it won’t even be noticed. More important than an amount or a percentage is that you give to God first and generously of what you have.

Your money is being used to implement the mission and vision of Sterling Wood Church both locally and abroad. We also fund ministries in our community such as Youth Reach (boys home), North Channel Assistance Ministry, GROW Homeless Ministry, and much more.

Our church staff has a financial checks and balances system established by using different people in different roles to process each expenditure and through oversite by our Stewardship Committee.
